About John Davies

I've been a modeller for forty years, and have undertaken a wide variety of professional commissions, both based on craftsman kits, and built from scratch.

I have also been a yachtsman since my youth, including a transatlantic passage as first mate of a schooner, and two years living aboard my own boat, a very pretty, very traditional gaff cutter. My knowledge of ships is in the context of real life experience. This often means a detail of 'how it really works' can be included for greater accuracy. There's also an irreplaceable "feel" for a ship.

Together with Chris Jackson, editor of "Marine Modelling" I co-authored the book "Introduction to Marine Modelling" Traplet Publications 1995 still reprinting today, £9.95.

All my work is to a high standard. While your project is underway you can expect regular reports by phone to keep you informed. You will normally need to book 3 to 6 months ahead, but while you are on my waiting list I will also keep in touch to reassure you of the queue moving along.

Photographs are available for your inspection before you place an order, and a visit can be arranged by appointment.

Here I am,
large as life and twice as hairy, with my good friend Andy, both of us intently watching the first trials of his Arun class lifeboat, a model I made of the lifeboat he served on as crew.
